Steamboy anime revieswes2/19/2023 ![]() ![]() Scarlett was an awful heroine who seemed to have no place in the story nor any empty role that she assumed. This subtle flashbacking is the definition of dumb So really, he was just a manifestation of the conflict in ideals between said figures, which I hope was not the result this movie was reaching for. For such a 'resolute' person, his values were clumsily constructed from that of the older figures in his life (namely his father & grandfather), and were often doubted because of fluctuations in their sources (father & grandfather again). Ray is an okay lead, though some aspects of his characterization did get on my nerves. Nothing terrible but certainly nothing noteworthy to make up for Steamboy's fumbles in plot. The latter portion of the movie is almost entirely pointless it features non-stop action that isn't fueled by any sort of ethical or emotional drive and infact is not even observed by our focal character. ![]() ![]() ![]() It takes a solid idea with tons of potential exploration and doesn't expand on it. Unfortunately Steamboy fails to establish any sort of concrete plot to follow the premise. Everything from the inventions, to the backgrounds, was gorgeous, and the character designs, while not ‘sophisticated’ or any of the like, were suiting for the kind of mature story Steamboy tried to tell. The art and animation were both very fitting of the setting. This movie successfully merged science and morals, not unheard of for anime but still a more outlandish idea for the medium. The premise isn’t all too unique but it is certainly interesting and serves as an adequate backbone for the plot (for some time). To keep you reading, I’ll begin with the praise I have for this movie. ![]()
